Drew's 2 month appointment was last week. He was just shy of 10 pounds (9 pounds 15 ounces to be exact). He's still in the 5th percentile for weight and length. His head size is in the 85th percentile. Overall he is doing well. He is starting to get a flat spot on his head. So we're trying to do more tummy time and I've purchased a pillow that is supposed to help. He got 4 vaccinations before we left the doctor's office - 1 oral and 3 shots. The poor guy was a little miserable afterwards and that evening got a 101 fever. I did speak with the on-call pediatrician and getting a fever is normal. They wanted us to call back if it rose to above 103, which it didn't. He was happier the next day.
Drew is doing so much better with tummy time. He can pick his head up and go back and forth several times. And he's able to stay on his belly for longer periods of time. He still gets frustrated that he cannot lift his torso off the ground and take off moving. He's still trying though. He also almost rolled over the other day. He's been able to roll on his side for a long time now. He started occasionally sleeping on his side at 4 days old. It won't be long before he'll make it all the way over.
He's also discovered that taking a bath is fun! Or more accurately, if he kicks his legs in the tubs he splashes and he loves that. He coos and talks more. And he's starting to laugh and giggle.
Since then, he had a busy week. Lots of friends and family visiting. This past Monday was a very busy day. We spent time at daycare. I really like his teacher (Miss Jen). We also got to meet one of his classmates (M) who will be starting around the same time at Drew. For the time being it'll just be the two boys and on Fridays for the time being, Drew will be the only one in the infant room. That afternoon, Auntie Karen arrived and totally confused the heck out of Drew. We look enough and sound enough alike, that he thought that she was me for awhile and even tried to nurse on her. After Karen left, we went and visited Mike's parents as his Aunt was visiting.
Tuesday, we spent more time with Karen and Caleb. Eventually Nate arrived and we had a nice siblings reunion. Nate got to feed Drew twice. Drew was such a good boy when we went out to dinner. Half the time he was fascinated by the sounds and lights (his new obsession is light fixtures and ceiling fans) and the other half of the time he was sleeping. We feel more comfortable going out to dinner to a causal restaurant with him. And we finally got to check out the newest location of
Ixtapa.
The cats are totally used to him now. They aren't as freaked out when he starts to cry or scream. Ming will let him pet her (me holding his hand of course) and she was very good the day he popped her in the jaw. She got treats (and Drew moved away) because she didn't hiss, growl, swipe or bite him. Elsee has added him to her list of humans that she needs to keep track of.
It's hard to believe that my maternity leave is almost over. In some respects, I cannot wait to go back to work and get more adult interaction. On the other hand, I'll miss spending the day with Drew. I know for a fact, I'm not cut out to be a stay at home parent. I love the little guy but it'll be better for both of us with me working and him making friends and learning. I am totally confident that he'll love daycare and the interaction with others will be beneficial for him.
And now a few pictures:
